In-house AI training for a law firm

How do you integrate AI as a supportive tool while ensuring human expertise and strategic judgement remain paramount?

A law firm approached us with this question. This case study illustrates how their team took effective steps following our training.

Practical approach with a focus on real-world application

Practical skills you can apply immediately

Industry-specific examples

Higher productivity and operational efficiency operational efficiency

The challenge

A law firm wanted to use AI in a safe, effective, and professional manner in its daily operations.

The staff needed practical knowledge and the confidence to independently start working with AI tools, without compromising quality and craftsmanship.

The solution

Gaide provided an in-house training divided into two interactive sessions with an interim phase for experimentation. We began by clarifying the theory behind AI and language models. This was followed by a practical phase where employees could experiment with prompts and AI tools. The second session was entirely focused on specific applications within the legal practice, including building custom GPT's and formulating effective prompts.

Results and benefits

Independent application of AI

A more efficient approach to time-consuming tasks

Increased confidence in the safe use of AI

More time and space for strategic and legal substantive work

Review

“The in-house course on the use of AI in legal practice was a valuable and inspiring experience for our entire team. The structure of the course, spread over two sessions with a practice period in between, was particularly effective.

On the first day, we gained a solid foundation: Lewis introduced us (both lawyers and support staff) to the background and theory of AI and the workings of large language models. This session not only provided us with insight into what AI is, but also what it is not, and most importantly: where it offers opportunities in our daily practice.

In the subsequent two weeks, we had the opportunity to experiment ourselves. And we did so extensively! Practicing and ‘playing’ with prompts, tools, and practical applications, as well as creating images and comics (where we depicted recent cases for internal use only!) helped us master the tool better. It was also delightful to do, and daily we shared the latest images and AI successes internally.

The second course day was hands-on and focused on our practice. The lawyers learned, under Gaide's guidance, how to build our own GPTs, tailored and aligned with our office to support various specific tasks. We delved into formulating good prompts: how do you craft a question so that the answer is relevant, precise, and reliable? Why is the phrasing of prompts so crucial? And how do you develop your own ‘prompt style’ that suits your practice and is safe?

Thanks to this course, we have acquired concrete skills that help us to use AI effectively within our law firm. It enables us to automate time-consuming tasks such as structuring documents, without compromising on quality or expertise. On the contrary: our own expertise, knowledge, skills, and experience remain leading at all times. By consciously and purposefully using AI, we can focus as lawyers on what really matters: the heart of the matter, the strategy, and the human judgment that technology will never replace.

In short Gaide's course not only taught us skills but also gave us the confidence to apply AI in a professional, safe, and efficient manner in our practice. An absolute recommendation for any law firm ready for the future, without losing sight of its foundations.”
